May Back Issue of the Month: 2011 Father’s Day Issue

Each month Iron Horse Literary Review designates one or more back issues for sale at a special, reduced price of only $3 each. Our sale this month features the 2011 Father’s Day Issue (IHLR 13.3). Introducing IHLR 13.6, the Fireside Issue

The newest issue of Iron Horse Literary Review, which we’ve dubbed the Fireside Issue, is sure to make for cozy reading.

This winter-themed issue features fiction by Elizabeth Buchanan and Khristian Mecom; poetry by Brock Guthrie, Douglas Ray, B.J. Best, Doug Ramspeck, Benjamin Myers, and Randolph Thomas; a flash nonfiction piece by Lili Wright; and a stunning cover photo by Charles Patterson.

Aaron Alford’s “Hit List” column has a little bit of everything–Yeats, H.D., the Beatles, Motown, and a winter ennui somewhere between angst and fluff. And in this issue’s “Horselaugh,” Brent Newsom offers up “Mash-Up Paradelle: Winter Tunes.”

Fiction Writer Melanie Rae Thon to Read at Texas Tech February 16

Novelist and short story writer Melanie Rae Thon will give a reading at Texas Tech University on Thursday, February 16, 7:30-8:30 in English 001.

Melanie Rae Thon’s most recent books include the novel The Voice of the River (FC2, 2011) and In This Light: New and Selected Stories (Graywolf, 2011). Her other novels are Sweet Hearts, Meteors in August, and Iona Moon, and she has also published two more story collections: First, Body and Girls in the Grass. Thon’s work has been included in Best American Short Stories (1995, 1996), three Pushcart Prize Anthologies (2003, 2006, 2008), and the O. Henry Prize Stories (2006). She is a recipient of a Whiting Writer’s Award (1997), two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts (1992 and 2008), and a Writer’s Residency from the Lannan Foundation (2005). In 2009, she was Virgil C. Aldrich fellow at the Tanner Humanities Center. Thon’s fiction has been translated into French, Italian, German, Spanish, Croatian, Finnish, Japanese, and Farsi. Originally from Montana, Thon now lives in Salt Lake City, where she teaches in the Creative Writing and Environmental Humanities programs at the University of Utah.

This is the first reading in this year’s Iron Horse Reading Series, sponsored by Iron Horse Literary Review, the Texas Tech University Department of English, and the Texas Tech University Graduate School.

IHLR 13.5 is Here!

The latest issue of Iron Horse Literary Review has dropped, and with it comes our new, wider format, pared-down cover design, and some great new writing!

This Open Issue features fiction by Joseph O’Malley and J.T. Bushnell; poetry by Tara Bray, Heather Price, Michael Salcman, Melissa Cundieff-Pexa, Robby Nadler, Bhavin Tailor, and Jennifer Habel; Amy Roper’s nonfiction piece “A Map of Childhood Games,” complete with map and legend; and photographs by John Martino, Whitney Martin, and J. Marcus Weekley. One of Martin’s lovely images graces the cover.

Issue 13.5 also introduces a new feature of Iron Horse, one-of-a-kind columns written by our Managing Editors, Aaron Alford and Brent Newsom.
